March 15 H I 12 and dinosaurs


This week, we learned the letter Hh and the letter Ii.  We made hippos and iguana hats.  



We also learned the number 12.  We watched this 12 video


We read a story called Nate the Dinosaur about a boy who gets a dinosaur costume and thinks he is a dinosaur.  We watched this video about dinosaurs too.  We have also been learnıng a new song about body parts, called Coconut soap.

F G and Flying Animals: March 8

This week, we've continued to work on the alphabet.  We're still doing the alphabet song and we also started Ff and Gg.  We watched these videos for Ff and Gg and another one for Gg.  We made frogs and fish to practice Ff.  We also read the Rainbow Fish book.  We made goats and grapes to practice Gg.  You can practice identifying letters and making the sounds that they make at home.  So far, students should know Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, and Gg.
We have been reading another story about baby animals, called All Kinds of Kisses.  Students love to pretend to be the animals and give kisses.  They shout out Mommy! and Baby!
In the PYP, we have also been learning about animals that fly, like birds, bats and butterflies.  We watched this video about how caterpillars become butterflies.  We played along with the video and pretended to hatch from our shell, eat a leaf, build a cocoon, and and emerge as a butterfly.  We also watched this video about how birds fly|.  We also made a bird craft that can flap its wings.

We are also starting the number 11.  We are going to learn up to 20 this term.  Here's a video we watched for 11.


We started a matching worksheet in class on Friday.  For homework over the weekend, you can color it in and practice the words again.

D, E, and the Very Hungry Caterpillar Mar 1

This week, we learned Dd and Ee.  We did dinosaur, dog and elephant crafts.  We watched this dinosaur videoWe are also working on the alphabet song and letter recognition.  We also watched this video for Ee.  You can sing the song at home too!
We are also reading a new book about ABCs and Baby Animals. Students love to pretend to be baby animals.  We also get to practice alphabet sounds while we play.  You can practice Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, and Ee sounds when you see these letters.
We also revisited the Very Hungry Caterpillar and reviewed the foods that he eats.  We had a fun visit to a bread factory on Monday too.
We're learning a fun new song called Coconut Soap about body parts.

Alphabet and Aquarium Feb 22

This week, we continued to learn the alphabet.  We reviewed Aa and Bb and started Cc.  We talked about caterpillars, cats and cows.  We made a cat.  We watched this alphabet video.

We also finished the Cheeky book.  I will be sending home Unit 6 of the book this week.  This unit focused on the story of Goldilocks.  We learned the words bear, bowl, chair, bed, and brown.  We also learned a new song about a bear.

We had a visit to the aquarium on Tuesday so we've been doing sea-related activities.  We read There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed the Sea in the library.  We review the Slippery Fish song.  We painted a picture of the sea and made a shark craft.

Welcome to Spring Term!

Welcome back!  Spring Term is off to a good start.  This week, we started Unit 6 in Cheeky, which is a story called Goldilocks.  It is a common fairy tale in English.
We also celebrated Valentine's day by making butterflies and Valentine's.  We sang Skidamarink.
We are also starting the English alphabet.  We made alligators for Aa and bees for Bb. We started learning the alphabet song and English alphabet sounds with this video too.

This week, I am sending home Unit 5 from Cheeky Monkey, I'm hungry. In this unit, we learned cake, sandwich, ice cream, biscuit, apple, and banana.  We also learned the phrase "I'm hungry" and "Happy birthday."
